Backup Services

As they say in the computer industry, there are two kinds of people - those who backup, and those who wish they had. Statistically speaking, at some point you will be in a situation where you will need a good backup. Due to this, we always recommend that you have at least one reliable backup method, and preferably more than one. There are three main types of backup systems that we recommend: RAID, External Backup, and Offsite Backup.

The first method, RAID backup, is where you have more than one hard drive that information is stored on. This type of backup is mainly useful to prevent against a failing hard drive, and is always current, but there are some limitations. There are many different types of RAID; which type is prefered depends on your exact situation, as there are a variety of factors to consider. In any case, we are very familiar with the different types of RAID and can easily assist you in choosing which RAID type is best for you and in setting it up.

The second method, an external backup system, is a type of backup in which a copy of all information is stored on media external to the computer. The most common types of storage media are CDs or DVDs, tape backup systems, or an external hard drive. This type of backup is very useful for keeping a local copy of all your information that is outside of the computer; you can also keep archive copies of all information so that you can recover old copies of files or documents in case anything is accidentally deleted or changed. Normally, we prefer to use one or more external hard drives in combination with a program called Acronis True Image. This program allows you to create backups of any or all of your information on a schedule of your choosing, as well as backing up all of your programs and settings. If you have any questions about this backup method, or to have us assist you in setting it up, please contact us.

The last backup method that we recommend is an offsite backup. In this type of backup, your information is stored at a remote location to ensure that even if your computer or home/office is destroyed, your information will be secure. This is a service that we offer to our clients, in an attempt to make sure that our client's data is safeguarded. Additionally, we offer complete security to ensure that your data is protected during the time we safeguard it. The transfer of your data to our servers is made automatically to ensure that you do not lose any important information, the transfer itself is secured with 128-bit SSL security, your data is password protected by a password that only you know (we do not keep records of passwords), and your data is stored in an encrypted file format. Additionally, we regularly backup all client information to DVD to be placed in a safe deposit box, so that even if your office and our office is destroyed, a copy of your information is available and secure. Please contact us for more information and pricing on this service.

As you can see, there are a variety of backup methods that are available for your data. If you have any questions about any of the different types, or to ask a general question about backing up your information, please contact us at 405-608-4464 or backup@aplusonsiteservice.com.
